Meet our Certified Pedorthist (Shoe Fitting Specialist)
An ABC certified pedorthist is a healthcare professional who is specifically educated and trained to fabricate, fit, adjust and modify devices that aid in the proper functioning of the foot. This includes therapeutic shoes, partial foot prostheses and custom foot orthoses.
Sarah J. Garcia, C-Ped, grew up in Florida but relocated to Richmond in 1992. She started her career in Podiatry in 1990. During the ensuing 16 years she worked in several foot and ankle clinics, learning all aspects of podiatric care. In 2006 she joined The Foot & Ankle Center and managed the clinical services. Although Sarah found her duties satisfying she wanted to offer more to her patients as well as her career. While juggling a full time job and her family — which includes her husband Victor, son Jordan and daughter Kayla — she completed the requirements to sit for the state board exam in pedorthics. She passed the exam on her first attempt (more than half fail the first time), and she is now one of only 3,000 pedorthists in the nation. We are pleased to have her as a part of our podiatric team and family. Sarah offers knowledge, compassion and the drive to always do the best job.

Katherine takes pride in providing a hands-on approach, working with patients to address pain and limitations as they relate to the whole body, treating the source of the problem.
Meet the Licensed Nail Technicians of The Foot & Hand Spa
Doris, aka The Foot Lady, really loves feet. In fact, she collects them. Doris’ collection of wood, plastics, glass, ceramic and jewelry feet is 400 strong and growing! So, when she gives you a medical pedicure at the Foot and Hand Spa, you know your feet are in good hands. In addition to making feet look great, Doris, a 21-year veteran nail technician, identifies and assesses potential foot-related problems so she can refer patients for further care when needed. In addition to medical pedicures, Doris provides other spa services and extended deep massage, and specializes in personal designs and original artwork. She is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Karen discovered her interest in nail care while, as a caregiver, she started doing her mother's nails. She decided to pursue her interest by taking a 150-hour class to pass the state boards and earn her Virginia state license. After an 11-year career at the nail spa of the Country Club of Virginia, Karen joined the staff of The Foot & Hand Spa. She looks forward to providing expert nail care to diabetics and others requiring specialized care — as well as to anyone concerned about germs and infection and looking for a clean place to get a manicure and pedicure.
Taylor developed an interest in the beauty industry in high school, where she participated in a nail technician program, and went on to receive her Virginia Nail Technician license. She also competed as a member of the nail program "Skills USA," achieving first place at the district level, and fifth place at the state level. Before coming to The Foot & Hand Spa, Taylor worked as a nail tech, and owned her own nail spa. Today, when she's not working with her wonderful clients to make their nails look fabulous, Taylor enjoys spending time on her farm with her beloved horses.
